Finidi George: Success Story or Failure?



    Being in the elite group of one of the first Africans to win the champions league should be considered a success story for this man from Calabar but was he, really? After forming part of the Ajax's dominant side that won the champions league at the expense of Ac Milan in the 1994/1995 season, he left having being left frustrated by the somewhat mechanical system of then dutch manager, Luis Van Gaal. the rest as they always say is history, the move culminated in a downward trend for the tall Wideman known for his pace and dribbling skills. He retired after having suffered relegation with two different clubs but one sticking point in this story is that, was his move a case of moving too early? and what if his deal with Real Madrid had not fallen through?.

Wilson Oruma: The Second Jay Jay?

    The tale of this man is a sad one, once preferred to Okocha for his 'sensible' dribblings, he was tipped for success too. Why wouldn't he be?, he had, at least, won the 1993 FIFA under 17world championships as the captain and tournament top goalscorer, he was also part of the Nigerian team that won bronze at the 2002 and 2006 African cup of nations and was also part of the squad that won Olympic gold, but like every other Nigerian footballer, his career petered out relatively quickly. He represented clubs including but not limited to Bendel Insurance, Lens, Marseille, Guingamp, amongst others. What was most surprising was that after his retirement in 2010, he was no longer heard of until he reportedly lost close to Two (2) Billion Naira to a clergyman and was declared mentally unstable for six (6) years,.  Haven't downloaded our application yet, get it here

Yakubu (The Yak) Aiyegbeni: Unassuming Legend

    Our very own hero we like to hate, the best impression of a failed Nigeria's national team expedition at an international tournament, The Yak went into the tournament hoping to make the country proud but he did one better, he came back a legend albeit, for the wrong reasons, his miss at a gaping goal spelt the end for the national team's prospects according to some, but he amended this error by scoring a penalty afterwards, and would become the talking point for years to come, it's safe to say he never bothered representing Nigeria again. Funny enough, he had a relatively successful career at club level and is the third-highest African goalscorer in the premier league history (source: Wikipedia) and at present, though retired, he is currently working alongside FIFA   in conjunction with the FIFA legends programme.
